My Journey Through Life: An American Story is the autobiographical account of Dr. Gerald Davis, born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He retired after thirty-nine years as a student, teacher, advisor, and coach at an independent, co-educational boarding school in New England.

Dr. Gerald N. Davis is a retired history teacher who focused on African American history as well as African history and culture. After graduating from Hampton University in 1961, he spent two years as an international Voluntary Service teacher in Liberia, West Africa. From 1964 to 2000, he served as a history teacher at Northfield Mount Hermon School (NMH), in Massachusetts. He was also a coach and advisor throughout his time at NMH. From 1980 to 1983 he served on the Academic Committee and Board of Directors for the National Association of Independent Schools. His studies of African history have taken him to Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, and South Africa.
